Self-Care and Rest

Reframing Self-Care and Rest: It’s Not Laziness, It’s Vital!

In today's fast-paced world, feeling guilty about taking breaks is as common as forgetting where you left your keys. However, self-care and rest are like the secret ingredients to our mental well-being; crucial for our overall health and definitely not just lazy loafing around. If you look at it from a faith-based perspective, nurturing ourselves is pretty much saying "thank you" to our bodies for not falling apart on Monday mornings.

Rest is not laziness; it’s a divine gift. In Genesis, God rested after creating the world—not because He needed it, but to show us that rest is part of His design for us (Genesis 2:2). Even Jesus, amidst His world-saving mission, took time to step away and recharge (Matthew 11:28-29).

Self-care isn’t about being selfish; it’s about honoring the body and soul that God entrusted to us. When we rest, we’re trusting in God’s provision and taking care of the temple He gave us (1 Corinthians 6:19). So, the next time you feel guilty about resting, remember: it’s not laziness—it’s a necessary part of being whole and well. Resting isn’t just allowed; it’s biblical!!

How to Rest Like a Pro (Without Guilt)

Pray and Reflect: God designed you to be in a relationship with Him. Prayer is like connecting to the one person who loves you the most. Check in with Him, he knows what you need and has your best interest at heart.

Honor the Sabbath: Mass, spending some time with God, family time, and yes—Sunday naps. If it’s good enough for the Third Commandment, it’s good enough for us! Spend time practicing mental and spiritual rest.

Set Boundaries: Stop being a martyr. You’re allowed to say no to things that drain you.

Take Care of Your Body: Eat, sleep, exercise, repeat. Even saints took care of their health!

GOD BLESS
